Florian — coach, movement coach, developer
Coaching since 2012, personal trainer in Innsbruck and Vienna. I work brain-centred and measured because I learned on my own body that movement, pain and trust are decided in the nervous system — and because as a software engineer I can't help but measure.
Outdoors as a child, a computer nerd as a teenager — both stayed. In 2010 I discovered parkour and was hooked immediately; two years later I started teaching it. Hardly any sport teaches balance, falling and reaction as rigorously — and hardly any has such a large mental component: before every jump comes the decision whether to take it. Dealing with fear, self-confidence, honestly judging your own abilities — I learned that there, long before I taught it as a mental trainer.
Daily training had its price: shin splints, jumper's knee, back pain, an MCL tear and a meniscus tear in the knee, a bone marrow oedema in the ankle. Every injury forced me to look more closely — why something hurts, which movement patterns are behind it, and why the pain often stayed although the tissue had long healed. That question led me to neuroathletics, to pain science and eventually to Z-Health. I used to get at most half a year at a stretch without complaints. Today I've been free of pain and breakdowns for years, train more than ever — and enjoy jumping again, because I know my body can take it. That feeling is what I want to pass on.
I'm chairman of the sports club AddON Movement in Innsbruck, where I've taught parkour, ukemi and athletics for years — children, teenagers, adults, and free in the parkour park in summer (Bewegt im Park, in cooperation with SPORTUNION). Before and alongside that I coached for many years for USI Innsbruck, Jugendland and SPORTUNION, trained parkour and freerunning instructors and regularly lecture in parkour instructor education. I moved personal training into flof.coach because it's its own thing: 1:1, measured, brain-centred, in Innsbruck and Vienna.
The other half of me writes software (flof.codes) and studies medical informatics at the Medical University of Vienna. That combination produced Wobble — the app I use to measure balance in training — and VestiCore, a research device for vestibular feedback. Training and technology interlock for me: I want to know whether something works, not believe it.
Five principles
No training without a measurable goal
“Getting fitter” is a wish. “Ten clean push-ups”, “single-leg stance 30 seconds eyes closed” or “hiking without knee pain” are goals. We measure at the start, we measure at the end. If I can't measure it, I don't train it.
Fundamentals first
I don't skip fundamentals — not even in competitive sport. Before we build performance, mobility, balance and a healthy body have to be in place: first the eyes, the vestibular system and the senses that give the brain its information for movement, then strength, then performance. That isn't always the fastest result. It's the one that lasts.
Brain before muscle
I'm a brain-centred practitioner: strength, mobility, balance and pain are decisions of the nervous system. That's why eyes, vestibular system, breathing and attention belong in training just as much as squats.
Habits beat motivation
I've worked with habit building for years — on myself and with clients. My tool: every habit in three sizes (mini, plus, elite), so even the worst day doesn't break the streak. My goal is to make you independent of me.
Honest about the evidence
I constantly research new methods, test them on myself and keep what measurably works. I tell you what's proven and what's fashion — including for my own tools. And I tell you what I'm not: not a physiotherapist, not a doctor.
